Hello White City friends,

Many public boards need local citizens to be represented in the decision-making process. There are open seats on Salt Lake County boards and they are looking for engaged residents who can volunteer their time and expertise to provide meaningful input to county and community leaders. On average, board members serve 2-3 year terms and are appointed by a mayor or county council. Click on the links below to apply.

Animal Services Advisory Committee

  • The Animal Services Advisory Committee provides perspective and feedback on the general management and operation of the Animal Services division. Committee members help further the mission of Animal Services, which is to promote responsible pet ownership, spay/neuter programs, microchipping/pet licensing, and other programs that contribute to happy and healthy pets.

Arts and Culture Advisory Board

  • To encourage broad participation and support of the County cultural activities and facilities advise on policies regarding facilities management, usage and bookings and to advise on policies for the County public art program and collection.
  • The purpose of the Salt Lake County Board of Health is to oversee the administration of the Health Department and determine the general public health policies the department follows. The Board impacts the department's work by advising on public health policies, adopting and

Community and Support Service Advisory Council (CSSAC)

  • Make recommendations regarding funds available to the County for grants to agencies to provide social services to County residents. Such funds include but are not limited to County General funds appropriated for grant purposes federal funding from the Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) Program, up to 15 of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) Program. The Council acts in an advisory capacity.

Community & Economic Development Council (CEDAC)

  • Act in an advisory capacity to the SLCO community as it relates to the Community Development Block Grant program, and any other matter as deemed germane and appropriate by the County Executive and Council.

Council for Aging and Adult Services

  • The general purpose is to advise and assist Aging and Adult Services to promote the welfare of the older citizens of the County to the end that each may be assisted and encouraged by community resources in their quest for independent living to the best of their physical and mental potential.

Dimple Dell Regional Park Advisory Board

  • The Dimple Dell Regional Park Advisory Board was created in 1991 to make recommendations regarding the planning, development, use and protection of Dimple Dell Regional Park. The Board is composed of up to fifteen (15) members who represent the population of the park and are made up of multi-users including hikers, bicyclists, equestrians, school groups, nature lovers, etc. The Board meets monthly on the second (2nd) Wednesday at the Dimple Dell Recreation Center (or online, if needed).

Library Board

  • Salt Lake County residents who wish to volunteer for the library board will have a time commitment of at least four hours a month for four years. Members will review goals and objectives of the library, including the methods for annually evaluating progress. They approve and adopt written policies to govern the library. Additionally, they stay informed on the financial status, funding sources and needs of the library.

Parks & Recreation Advisory Board

  • The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board is a volunteer advisory board that brings a regional and county-wide vision and perspective to the management and operation of public services to include parks, trails, open spaces, golf courses, recreation centers and programs, and a historic farm.
  • The primary function of the board is to review, deliberate, and make recommendations to the County Mayor and County Council regarding issues of concern and importance related to parks and recreation facilities and programs. The board is also authorized and encouraged to promote cooperation between the county and the school districts for a mutually beneficial operation to meet the recreational needs of the citizens of the county.
  • The Advisory Board is comprised of eight members, one citizen member from each of the six geographical County Council districts and two (2) citizens at large. Additionally, there is one representative from each of the five school districts/boards.
  • Board meets monthly, 10 months out of the year, for approximately 1.5–2 hours per meeting.

Salt Lake County Noxious Weed Control Board

  • An advisory board to the Salt Lake County Noxious Weed Program for the formulation and implementation of a county-wide coordinated noxious weed control program, designed to prevent and control noxious weeds within the board's county.

Zoo, Arts & Parks Tier 1 (ZAP 1)

  • The ZAP Tier I Advisory Board will review applications and make funding recommendations to the Salt Lake County Council for ZAP Tier I and Zoological funding. The board also advises staff and elected officials on issues pertaining to the ZAP program.

Zoo, Arts & Parks Tier II (ZAP 2)

  • The ZAP Tier II Advisory Board will review applications and make funding recommendations to the Salt Lake County Council for ZAP Tier II funding. The board also advises staff and elected officials on issues pertaining to the ZAP program.
  • The Salt Lake County Code of Ordinances, Chapter 3.07 was updated in 2020 to allow for up to eleven members to serve on the Tier II Advisory Board.
  • Per Salt Lake County Code of Ordinances, Chapter 3.07, section 3.07.060, two of the eleven advisory board members shall be mayors from municipalities in Salt Lake County.
